Senior government officials from Amhara Region, Ethiopia visited Yeungnam University last June. By participating in a short-term training course on Saemaul Undong, they learned about history and accomplishments of Saemaul Undong, Economic development by Saemaul Undong, and Saemaul Undong & farm village development.

Also, the YU Institute of International Development Cooperation Center and the governor of Amhara signed an MOU to establish Saemaul Undong in Ethiopia and to cooperate in rural development. This MOU was made through the request of the Ethiopian Amhara Governor Gedu Andaregachew Alene.  http://www.yu.ac.kr/en/about/index.php?c=about_08_read&seq=435

This visit finished successfully thanks to our PSPS almuni, Demeke Atlaw MELKE. Demeke Atlaw MELKE, one of the class of 2012 PSPS alumni, recently contributed to successful short-term training course of Ethiopia. After graduation from the PSPS, he was promoted to the Deputy Head of Agricultural office in Amhara Region, Ethiopia.

As a Deputy Head of Agricultural office in Amhara Region, Demeke doing his job with knowledge which he learned from the PSPS. He thought that Amhara Region and Ethiopia needed to learn more about Saemaul Undong, so he convinced the Amhara Governor of it's importance.

It worked well. Saemaul Undong training was accomplished twice on the 8th to 18th and 20th to 29th, and the MOU between YU & Amhara Region was successfully finished. This is an example of huge progress as a PSPS alumni.

Demeke began studying at the PSPS in July 2012 and graduated in October 2013. He received a Master of Public Policy in Economic Development and wrote a report titled "Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) in Progress, Ethiopia."
