Welcome to PSPS

The Republic of Korea (ROK) stands as a testament to one of the most impressive economic transformations since the end of the Second World War. Within a relatively short span of fifty years, it transitioned from one of the world's poorest nations to an affluent, influential player on the global stage. This journey from being a recipient of international aid to becoming a donor vividly illustrates the remarkable strides it has made.

Yet, it is essential to acknowledge that this path hasn't been without its fair share of challenges. From major obstacles to smaller hurdles, Korea has navigated a complex landscape and continues to strive relentlessly to address ongoing issues.

Established in 2011, the Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul (PSPS) aims to share the experiences and lessons learned from Korea's socio-economic evolution. Our mission extends beyond sharing the philosophies, strategies, and practices that fueled Korea's development, seeking to explore and integrate cutting-edge theories, practices, and technologies from around the globe. In doing so, PSPS contributes to the development of other nations and the mutual prosperity of humanity, offering an invaluable blueprint to emerging economies worldwide.

PSPS provides a stimulating academic setting for promising young students and rising leaders, primarily from developing countries, while also welcoming a small cadre from developed nations. Our three distinguished departments—Saemaul & International Development, Public Policy & Leadership, and Sustainable Development—offer a rich, multicultural learning experience. Within Sustainable Development, students may opt for one of two focused majors: Forest & Environmental Policy or Water Resources Management.

A defining feature of our program is the emphasis we place on the state philosophy and leadership principles from the era of Park Chung Hee, which were instrumental in guiding Korea's progress during the 1960s and 1970s. Our curriculum, grounded in the essential theories and practices of community development, also delves deeply into the Saemaul Undong strategy, forestation initiatives, and diverse industrialization strategies. This integrative approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of developmental processes.

Our comprehensive and meticulous programs offer an intensive eighteen-month journey, designed to fully equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge.

To date, PSPS has been privileged to host over 800 international students, representing more than 70 diverse countries. This cultural and ethnic diversity forms a vital part of the unique PSPS experience, engendering an environment that stimulates innovation and nurtures a consciousness of global interconnectedness.

At PSPS, our mission is to nurture prospective global leaders committed to sustainable and inclusive development in their homelands while fostering international collaborations to improve the global community. We eagerly look forward to the arrival of these future change-makers at our institution.

Warm regards,

Byeong Wan Lee, Ph.D.
