Yeungnam University (YU), led by President CHOI Oe-chool, announced on January 3 that the 2025 Regular Admission application process closed at 6 PM. The university received 4,508 applications for 854 slots(within the quota), resulting in an average competition rate of 5.28:1.This marks an increase from last year's rate of 4.76:1, when 4,307 applicants vied for 904 positions.
The Department of Life Sciences recorded the highest competition ratio at 10:1, followed by the Department of Fiber System Engineering at 9.56:1, the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at 9.5:1, the Department of Chinese Classics Education at 9.4:1, and the Department of Physics at 9.14:1. The Department of Living Product Design (practical skills-based) saw a ratio of 8.5:1, while the Department of Public Administration recorded 7.92:1, the Department of Visual Design (practical skills-based) 7.9:1, the Department of Forest Resources 7.86:1, the Department of Chinese Language and Culture 7.71:1, the Department of Industrial Design (practical skills-based) 7.67:1, and the Department of International Development and Saemaul Studies 7.5:1, all showcasing high competition ratios.
President CHOI Oe-chool commented, “The increased competition rate for 2025 Regular Admission, following the record-high number of applicants and top regional enrollment rates during the early admissions process, demonstrates the trust students have in YU's efforts to enhance youth competencies. Despite the declining school-age population and preference for schools in metropolitan areas, YU’s university-wide dedication to nurturing future-ready talent has resonated with applicants.” He added, “Our commitment to fostering professionals who meet societal needs and contribute to global progress continues to earn recognition. We will persist in enhancing our unique educational strengths to cultivate distinguished graduates.”
In the meantime, YU announced that practical skill tests for applicants to arts and physical education departments will be conducted as follows:
Group B (Physical Education, Painting, Visual Design, Industrial Design, Living Product Design): January 22, 2025 (Wednesday)
Group C (Special Physical Education): January 23, 2025 (Thursday) The final list of admitted students will be announced on February 7, 2025.
